GOALS

The goal of Degreed Maestro was to bring AI into the learning experience in a way that actually moves the needle for enterprise organizations, not surface-level recommendations, but deep, adaptive coaching built around each employee's role, skills, and development goals.

The product needed to make personalized learning scalable across thousands of users, extend leadership coaching to employees at every level, and give L&D teams the tools to build and deploy custom AI-native experiences without heavy engineering lift.

CONSIDERATIONS

Enterprise learning has a trust problem with AI. Most employees have experienced recommendation engines that feel generic or irrelevant, and most L&D leaders have grown skeptical of tools that promise personalization but deliver noise. Maestro had to earn that trust by feeling genuinely useful, which meant grounding every interaction in a learner's actual skills history, not just their job title. The product also had to serve a wide range of use cases simultaneously: coaching conversations, sales role-plays, skill assessments, and pathway curation, each with different interaction models and expectations. Keeping the experience cohesive across all of those surfaces, while making each feel purpose-built, was a central design challenge.

SOLUTIONS

Maestro addresses the personalization gap by tapping into each learner's existing skills and learning history to deliver coaching and content that's relevant by default, not by exception. A 24/7 AI coach, available via both text and voice, gives employees on-demand support between formal learning moments. Maestro Studio lets L&D teams create custom experiences like role-plays and coaching conversations tailored to specific business needs, without requiring technical resources. Skill Review Coaches, embedded at the start and end of pathways, close the measurement loop, making it possible to track actual skill growth, not just completion rates.
